Privacy Policy for TechSanta

TechSanta ("we," "us," or "the app") is a gift-sharing and wishlist app. This policy explains what personal data the app collects, how it is used, and who it is shared with. We've tried to keep it short and plain.

Data we collect

We only collect data you give us or that is needed to run the service. We do not collect data for advertising or tracking.

Account information (you provide it):

• Username

• Email address

• Display name

• Password (stored only as a securely hashed value — we never store or see your actual password)

• Your notification preferences (whether you want update notices and email reminders)

Content you create:

• Your wishlist items (descriptions, web links, ratings, and categories)

• Your buddy list and any buddies you have blocked

• Gifts you reserve from other people's lists

Information collected automatically:

• An authentication token, created when you log in, stored securely on your device (in the iOS Keychain / Android Keystore) so you stay signed in. It is removed when you log out.

• When you create an account, our bot-protection provider (Cloudflare Turnstile) processes basic technical information such as your IP address to confirm you are a real person.

We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, advertising identifiers, or device analytics, and the app contains no third-party advertising or analytics/tracking SDKs.

How we use your data

• To create and operate your account and sign you in.

• To show your wishlist to your buddies, and to show you theirs (blocked buddies cannot see your list, and you cannot see theirs).

• To let you reserve gifts and manage your buddy list.

• To send email only for the purposes you choose: update notices and reminders (if you opt in), password resets, and replies to messages you send us through the contact form.

We do not sell your personal data, share it for advertising, or use it to track you across other apps or websites.

Who we share data with

We share data only with the service providers needed to run the app:

• Hosting provider (Heroku) — stores the app's data on our behalf.

• Email provider — delivers the emails described above.

• Cloudflare Turnstile — verifies you are human during sign-up. See Cloudflare's privacy policy at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.

We may also disclose data if required by law.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time and all data associated with your account will be deleted permanently.

Children

TechSanta is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Security

We protect your data with industry-standard measures: passwords are hashed, the app communicates with our servers over encrypted HTTPS connections, and your login token is kept in your device's secure storage. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new version here and update the effective date above.
